Stop what you’re doing and read this post because the #26weekreadingchallenge continues!

This time we review to you a book which my sister J loves and she chose, as you can probably tell from the title, “Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate.

Before we were yours

Disclaimer guys! My sister J didn’t read this book. Just by reading the plot of the book, she decided that it is, indeed, a good book.

“Before We Were Yours” is a historical fiction book and it is based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandal, in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country.

There are two storylines going on in this novel, one in 1939 and one is present day.

1939. Rill Foss and her four younger siblings live a life aboard their family’s Mississippi River shantyboat. One night, when their father must rush their mother to the hospital, Rill is left in charge until strangers arrive in force and bring the children to the Tennessee Children’s Home Society orphanage. Realizing that they won’t be returned to their parents, Rill fights to keep her sisters and brother together.

Present day. Avery Stafford, born into wealth and privilege, has a successful career, a handsome fiancΓ© and a wedding to prepare. But when she returns home to help her father, she takes a journey through her family’s long-hidden history.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…!!!

I was right! It is absolutely one of the most well written and heart-wrenching books I have ever read and I love it!

It is so sad to think that years ago this very event happened. To think that in that period your child could be taken away so easy and never see him/her again makes me so sad and mad. I have a sister and I know the fear that Rill and the other siblings feel.

The writing was wonderful especially during the parts based in the past. And I loved the characters especially the Foss children!

My favorite quote from the book is:

But the love of sisters needs no words. It does not depend on memories, or mementos, or proof. It runs as deep as a heartbeat. It is as ever present as a pulse.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…!!!

This book made me feel happy, then sad then made me smileΒ  and then made me feel nostalgic.

Before we were yours it’s a fictional story inspired by true events.

Knowing that people like Georgia Tann and all the people who were working in the orphanage, had the courage to do all of this to the kids, made me feel goosebumps.

Definetely a book to read!

My favourite quote from the book is the same one as my sister!

But the love of sisters needs no words. It does not depend on memories, or mementos, or proof. It runs as deep as a heartbeat. It is as ever present as a pulse.

Okaaaaaaaaaay! Now to the next read of this challenge!

The next book is a book which has a mythological creature in it! And we chose…

Got 1

J love the TV show they did inspired by the books and she hopes that the book are as good as the Tv show and even better! Who doesn’t love some fantasy book?

Speaking again of “Before We Were Yours”, I saw a lot of comments and reviews where people are comparing this book to “The Orphan Train”. Personally, I haven’t got to chance to read this book but I am going to put it on my wishlist and purchase it eventually.

Question of the post!

Did you read “The Orphan Train” or “Before We Were Yours”? If not, can you recommend any book similar to “Before We Were Yours”?
